Meadows Sanctuary
MASTER-PLANNED COMMUNITY, 89 HOMES, JEFFERSON COUNTY, COLORADO
Meadows Sanctuary is the proud recipient of Excellence in Landscape Merit Award 2000 by Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado, and that’s for many reasons. The goal was to have more birds on-site after the development was done than before it was even started. In collaboration with Foothills Park and Recreation, the property adjacent was combined to create a wild bird sanctuary that preserved, enhanced, and expanded the existing wetlands and bird-friendly ecosystem. Walking trails and resting areas offer residents and pedestrians a breath, while Boy Scout Eagle projects dot the landscape with pedestrian bridges, nesting boxes, loafing platforms for ducks, and bat houses. The wetland area was donated to Foothills Park and Recreation District, and the Sledding Hill, now a regional amenity, was donated to Jefferson County Open Space.
